How did you come to PARC?
My friend and colleague Alison set me up on a “friend date” with Christine when I moved to DC in February. The rest is history!
What do you spend most of your time doing for PARC?
Social media, lesson planning, and facilitating! (Also eating cheese)
What do you enjoy doing most at/with PARC?
Definitely getting the opportunity to eat copious amounts of food with 4 incredible, empowering women.
What do you do outside of PARC?
I’m a sexuality educator at Planned Parenthood. Outside of work right now I’m just bouncing around trying to relearn how to enjoy life post-graduate school. Free time? What are this?
Why PARC, and not a different organization at which to volunteer your time?
Because rape culture is everywhere. It’s at home with passing comments from roommates, it’s on the street where I can’t walk without fear of comments or violence, it’s on the internet with anything from posts, to fb pages, to memes. It’s literally everywhere. I don’t know too many organizations who focus specifically on this culture of rape and rape apologists. I think part of moving towards a world where people’s bodies are respected is addressing the culture of it. And that includes social media, moving through public spaces, language, behavior, the list goes on and on.
What or how would you like to see develop for PARC in the next year?
I would love to be scheduling programs left and right!
Biggest villain in rape culture these days?
Just one? Mansplaning, I think.
Conversely, biggest hero?
Women everywhere who are no longer standing for it.
You can have any 3 people sit on a PARC hosted panel on rape culture. Who are they?
Laci Green - Cheese
Michelle Obama- Organic goat cheese
Joe Biden - Bud light and nacho cheese
Favorite or one of your favorite sources of hope/joy/inspiration/commentary re: rape culture?
Coffee or tea? Pulp or no pulp?
Coffeecoffeecoffeecoffee. Definitely no pulp…Mimosas don’t need pulp.
Thing that everyone loves but you (hate/don’t love)?
Zoe Deschanel, nature, tomatoes
Favorite time of day and what are you doing then?
...believe it or not, right now, it's Monday mornings, sipping coffee with a friend.
Do you have any Pets Against Rape Culture? Pics or it’s not true…
My Pets Against Rape Culture are in Las Vegas and are very supportive of the cause.
(In order, Whiskey, Cosa, and Ron, will get you if you mention my butt to me one.more.time.
